The Family-Owned Farm Partnered with Ag-Grid Energy To Create Renewable Electricity

Hytone Farm owner Gregory Peracchio led the tour when U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Under Secretary for Rural Development Dr. Basil Gooden visited the Coventry, CT dairy farm in April. Hytone received a $800,000 Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) grant in 2023 to purchase and install an anaerobic digester on the farm, in partnership with Ag-Grid Energy LLC. The project will generate more than 3 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity per year, which is enough electricity to power nearly 300 homes. USDA’s REAP program helps farmers, ranchers, and rural small business owners invest in renewable energy through loans and grants, energy audits and more.
